Pyrography on Wood

Product Description

My inspiration are the textures, colors, patterns and all of the forces of nature that are so strongly present on the Big Island. It can be the glimpse of the colorful radiance on a parrotfish, the expression of a turtle or the abstract play of color and light on the surface of the water that catches my attention and does not let go until it finds a place on a canvas or another surface. All my life I have been exploring various techniques to make my ideas visible and just a few years ago I discovered fire as one of my favorite tools to create. So I learned pyrography and burn on Mango, Koa, Bamboo or even paper. Watercolor or high quality colored pencils are used to tint the wood with a transparent, yet intense layer or color. I also paint on canvas in oil or acrylics and love mixed media collages or sculptures.
